ZAMBOANGA CITY | South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. was named Outstanding Governor during the Gawad Parangal Awarding Ceremony of the 29th Association of Local Social Welfare and Development Officers of the Philippines Inc. (ALSWDOPI) National Convention and General Assembly on April 28, 2026, at the KCC Mall Convention Center.
The recognition highlighted Tamayo’s leadership in advancing inclusive, responsive, and people-centered governance, particularly in strengthening social welfare and development programs in the province.
The ALSWDOPI convention, themed “LSWDOs Build Together for Empowered Individuals, Families, and Communities Embracing Global Humanitarian Strategies through Ethical Standards of Social Work Practices,” gathered social welfare and development officers from across the country.
Since taking office in 2019, Tamayo has implemented key reforms that improved public service delivery. Among these is the “Hospital without Cashier” program, which provides free hospitalization in all provincial government-run hospitals, and the “No Student Left Behind” initiative that ensures access to free education from elementary to college.
Apart from his provincial role, Tamayo holds key national and regional positions. He is currently President of the League of Provinces of the Philippines, Chairman of the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines, Board Director of the Mindanao Development Authority, Vice Chairperson for the Government Sector of the National Anti-Poverty Commission, and Chairperson of the Regional Peace and Order Council-12.
Anchored on his governance mantra, “Para sa Tama at Maayos na Serbisyo,” Tamayo continues to push programs focused on healthcare, education, infrastructure, social services, economic development, peace and order, transparency, and agricultural modernization.
The award further reinforces South Cotabato’s commitment to strengthening social welfare initiatives and delivering inclusive, sustainable public service under Tamayo’s leadership.
